Mix Literary Award: published works – Coelho de Prata

The Mix Literary Award, Coelho de Prata, will be delivered to the work published in a physical book, between October 2019 and September 2020, whose narrative relates to experiences and specific issues of the LGBTQIA + community and which has been written by the author or author, of Portuguese-speaking countries, meeting a demand from the international community, interested in participating in this action that became a strong symbol against censorship in its first edition.

Gabriela Soutello, winner of the first edition, highlights the importance of the award in its trajectory and its meaning for our community: “How important it was to win the 1st Mix Literary Award, from Festival Mix Brasil, in 2019, in the last year of the decade, in the first of the Bolsonaro government, amid so many screams trying to silence us, lesbians. The ‘Nobody will remember me’ award was and is a stimulus for me to continue rethinking relationship and language formats, seeking identities, creating references and rewriting our stories, beyond the executioner and the victim, the male and the female stereotyped, violent heteronormative discourse that reproduces toxic superficialities that we have been taught. Being a lesbian and being a writer is challenging, it is delicious – especially when I manage to occupy spaces with literature, as this award allowed me, expanding our existences. He is ours.”

Bruno Ribeiro, winner of the honorable mention, also leaves his testimony about the experience: “When I heard that my novel ‘Glitter’, edited by Editora Moinhos, received the Honorable Mention of the 1st Literary Mix Award I was extremely happy. ‘Glitter’ has a wide range of LGBTQIA + characters and clashes with the fashion industry and its standards. That’s why receiving this Honorable Mention from the Literary Mix was so important to what my book stands for and stands for. ”

Caio Fernando Abreu Literature Award: unpublished works – published by Editora Reformatório

The Caio Fernando Abreu Literature Award is intended for the publication in book of an unprecedented literary work that focuses on diversity. The award, of national scope, will be held in partnership with Editora Reformatório, a house that will host the work with an exclusive publishing contract.

According to Alexandre Rabelo, writer and creator of these actions: “Caio’s work reaches many readers in addition to his more biographical narratives as a gay man. Perhaps this is not a fluke, since it nurtured a deep connection with the strength of the feminine, either in great characters, or in its relationship with great ladies of our literature. This perspective is often taken as its axis of resistance, as in ‘Dama da Noite’. In addition, Caio was one of the first queer Brazilian authors to receive general recognition, even though he publicly assumed his sexuality. Above all, Caio was very attentive to new dissident voices, having reviewed major premieres such as those by João Silvério Trevisan, Ana Cristina Cesar and Claudia Wonder. ”

Marcelo Nocelli, editor of the house, assesses the importance of this action for an even greater recognition of queer literature by the Brazilian publishing sector. Caio F. has been honored in the Literary Mix since its first edition, in 2018, in a series of meetings to remember his life and work, such as that between Italo Moriconi, organizer of the letters of the gaucho writer, and Celso Curi, central figure of Brazilian artistic resistance, of whom Caio has been a companion for years. This and other meetings can be heard on the new website of Festival Mix Brasil.
